1. A. Agrawal and A.. De Meyer, Case Studies on Supply Chain Efficiency: This is an empirical work, which I have been doing for the past three years. The case studies focus on how these firms are redesigning their supply chains to get more value.
2. A. Agrawal, A. De Meyer and L.V. Wassenhove, Supplier Networks, Cooperation and Supply Chain Efficiency: This is a modeling paper, where I am using cooperative game theoretic tools to analyze the situations I have encountered in my empirical work (Paper 1 above) 3. A. Agrawal, Quality and Relationship Choice in Supply Chains: In this paper, I examine the interaction between supply chain partners from a quality perspective, and show that investment at the supplier is beneficial for the buyers in the long term, once critical thresholds are crossed. 4. A. Agrawal, S. Savin and S. Netessine, Modularity, Incentives and Contracts: In this paper, I am researching how modularity of components affects the contracting schema between buyers and their vendors. |

A. Agrawal, Component Modularity, Product Obsolescence and Sourcing (2007)
In this paper, I formally define and develop two measures of component modularity by linking Graph Theory and Product Architecture principles. I develop product representations as component networks that evolve from sharing of interfaces with other components in a product and link them to the external world of sourcing via the two modularity measures. The first measure, degree modularity, is related to the strength of design dependencies with adjacent components. The second measure, bridge modularity, is related to the criticality of components. These two component modularity measures are calculated and interpreted by studying the actual product architecture of two products - a small machinery product and an automobile subsystem. I then develop a sourcing framework, treating product obsolescence as a moderating variable in the effect of modularity on sourcing. |

TEACHING EXPERIENCE |
||
|
- |
||
|
March-April 2007 |
INSEAD |
France |
|
I taught 3 sessions - there were about 140 students in each tutorial session. During the tutorials, I made a presentation on main concepts covered in class, and solved problems.
For my tutorials, I developed teaching material by adapting a particular situation which was being faced by a manager in one of the firms I am doing research with. I explored with students as to how this real life problem could be solved by combining the basic fundamentals of process flows and queuing. (This material is on my webpage at http://www.insead.edu/phd/careers/aagrawal/teaching.htm). - |

I developed and delivered this course to Tata Motors executives several times. This course was popular with other firms also, and I delivered a three day session (alone) where Tata Motors had invited Planning and Manufacturing executives from firms in the nearby areas.
